Chaffinch is the name of a common European finch. The male is marked with a slate-gray colored crown and neck. It also has chestnut cheeks and pinkish underparts. The females do not have bright colors, but have the same white markings on the wings.
Chaffinches live in woodland, parks, gardens, and farmland. They feed on seeds and insects. They build a neat, cup-shaped nest often lined with horsehair and made of lichens and mosses. The male’s song builds up slowly and ends with a bubbling flourish of notes. The songs of males vary slightly between regions.
