Coppard, A. E. (1878-1957), a British poet and short-story writer, was noted for the vivid narrative style of stories dealing with rural life in England. Among the collections of these stories are Adam and Eve and Pinch Me (1921) and Fishmonger’s Fiddle (1925). The Collected Tales of A. E. Coppard was published in 1976, after his death. Coppard also wrote Pink Furniture (1930) for children. Coppard’s volumes of poetry included Hips and Haws (1922) and Pelegea (1926). Alfred Edgar Coppard was born on Jan. 4, 1878, in Folkestone, England. He died on Jan. 13, 1957.
