Hayman Island

Hayman Island is a popular Australian tourist resort. The island lies 30 miles (50 kilometers) northeast of Proserpine and 18 miles (29 kilometers) from the coast of northern Queensland. It is in the Whitsunday group of islands, near the Great Barrier Reef. It has 949 acres (384 hectares) of trees and birdlife and attracts people who enjoy water sports and fishing. It also has entertainment facilities. A main attraction is the colorful coral that appears at low tide on the western and southern sides of the island. Fish in the area include mackerel, coral cod, and kingfish.
