Huddersfield

Huddersfield is a town in West Yorkshire, England, situated about 16 miles (26 kilometers) southwest of Leeds. It is an important manufacturing center for the textile industry. Engineering and the production of chemicals and dyes are among the other industries of Huddersfield. Huddersfield and the surrounding area have a population of 367,600.

The Victoria Tower stands on Castle Hill, which is about 900 feet (275 meters) high. The Huddersfield Choral Society is one of the most famous choirs in the United Kingdom. This amateur choir was founded in 1836. Sir Malcolm Sargent was once its conductor. Huddersfield also has an annual festival of contemporary music.
