Huhu beetle

Huhu beetle is the largest beetle found in New Zealand. It is common throughout the country. It reaches up to 2 inches (50 millimeters) long. The beetle is brown in color. Huhu beetles can nip people who handle them, but they are generally harmless. The grub stage lives in timber and does considerable damage to fence posts and dead trees. Māori ate the grubs and considered them a delicacy.
