King George Sound is one of the finest harbors in Australia. It lies on the southern coast of Western Australia. The Port of Albany stands on Princess Royal Harbour, the western part of the sound. The sound is sheltered by an isthmus and has two inner harbors that can be reached through narrow straits. Within the sound are a number of islands. George Vancouver, a British explorer, discovered the sound in 1791. He named it King George III’s Sound.
