Lake Te Anau

Lake Te Anau is the largest lake in the South Island of New Zealand. It covers an area of 133 square miles (344 square kilometers) and is more than 40 miles (64 kilometers) long. It has three long channels that reach out to the mountains in the west. Many of the peaks around the lake rise to more than 6,000 feet (1,800 meters) above sea level. Te Anau, a small town at the southern end of the lake, is a popular holiday resort.
