Lambay Island

Lambay Island is a small island in the Irish Sea, northeast of Dublin, Ireland. It has an area of about 8 square miles (21 square kilometers). The island is a noted bird sanctuary. It is privately owned, and special permission must be obtained by visitors. Lambay was the scene of the first Viking raid on Ireland, in the A.D. 790’s. The island has remains of fortifications that date from the 1500’s.
