Maidenhair fern is an attractive fern with small, delicate leaves and shiny black or purple stalks. Most species grow in warm countries, although one species grows as far north as Alaska.
The common maidenhair grows wild in Europe and is a popular house plant. It grows well indoors if kept away from direct sunlight and watered regularly.
