Milton Keynes (pop. 287,060) is a town in southern England. It became a town in 1967 and was formed mainly from the former parishes of Bletchley, Newport Pagnell, and Wolverton. In 1997, it became a unitary authority with all the local government powers within its boundaries. Milton Keynes is one of the United Kingdom’s fastest-growing towns. Many firms have headquarters in the town. Industrial products include computer systems, electronic components, pharmaceuticals, plastics, prefabricated buildings, and sports cars. The Open University headquarters is in Milton Keynes. The surrounding area is mainly rural.
