Mount Erebus

Mount Erebus is the most active volcano on the continent of Antarctica. It rises to a height of 12,448 feet (3,794 meters) above Ross Island in McMurdo Sound, a bay of the Ross Sea. In 1979, an Air New Zealand DC-10 crashed into Mount Erebus during a sightseeing flight over Antarctica. All 257 people on board were killed. See also Antarctica .
