Mzilikazi

Mzilikazi (1795?-1868) was the founder of the Ndebele nation of present-day Zimbabwe. He was king of the Khumala clan, which lived near the source of the Mkuze River in Zululand in the early 1800’s. The Ndebele established a powerful empire by conquering and absorbing many Sotho and later Tswana communities. Eventually, Mzilikazi led his people across the Limpopo to the Matopo hills, in Zimbabwe, where they established a permanent home.
