Norman, Greg (1955-…), an Australian golfer, was one of the leading professional golfers in the world in the 1980’s and 1990’s. Norman was nicknamed the “Great White Shark.” He won the British Open in 1986 and 1993 and came dramatically close to winning the three other major tournaments in professional golf, the Masters Tournament, the United States Open, and the United States PGA (Professional Golfers’ Association) Championship. Norman was known as one of the sport’s longest and most accurate drivers. He ranked among the most popular players on the pro tour because of his good nature and his sportsmanship.
Gregory John Norman was born on Feb. 10, 1955, in Mount Isa in the state of Queensland, Australia. He turned professional in 1976, playing in several Asian tournaments the next year. He then started playing in Europe and began competing in the United States in the early 1980’s. Norman is a permanent resident of the United States but maintains his Australian citizenship. Norman was married to the former American tennis champion Chris Evert from June 2008 to December 2009. Norman has built a business empire that includes a line of clothing, wine production, and real estate development. He is also the chief executive officer (CEO) and commissioner of LIV Golf, a men’s golf tour that held its first tournament in 2022.
