Plzen (pop. 174,007) is an important city in Bohemia, a region in the Czech Republic. The city is also called Pilsen. It stands at the junction of two rivers, the Mze and the Radbuza. Plzen was a Roman Catholic stronghold during the religious wars of the 1400’s to 1600’s and withstood many sieges. Plzen breweries produce world-famous Pilsner beer.
