Pusey, Edward Bouverie (1800-1882), an English theologian, was one of the leaders of the Oxford Movement. This movement was a revival in the Church of England that began in 1833 in Oxford, England. Pusey, John Keble, and John Henry Newman, sometimes called Tractarians, wrote a series of essays called “Tracts for the Times” to emphasize important aspects of the church’s teaching. Pusey also financed the building of several churches in London and of St. Saviour’s in Leeds. In 1884, his friends founded Pusey House, Oxford, to carry on his work. Pusey was born in Pusey, in Oxfordshire.
