Quirinal Palace was the residence of the kings of Italy from 1871 until 1946. It stands on the Quirinal Hill in Rome. Before 1870, the palace was the summer residence of the popes. Gregory XIII began building it for that purpose in 1574. In 1948, the palace became the official residence of the president of the Italian Republic.
