Sardis

Sardis, an ancient city near present-day Izmir, Turkey, was the capital of the kingdom of Lydia. The oldest remains of Sardis date back to the 1300’s B.C., but there are other indications that the city is older. Persians conquered Sardis in about 545 B.C. The city was later destroyed and rebuilt several times, until its final destruction by the Sasanian Persians about A.D. 615.
