Warrumbungle Range is a mountain range about 100 miles (150 kilometers) long that extends northwestward from the Liverpool Range in eastern Australia. At its western end, near Coonabarabran, it consists of the eroded remnants of volcanic eruptions that occurred about 14 million years ago. Some peaks of the Warrumbungle Range rise to nearly 3,445 feet (1,050 meters) above sea level. They stand out sharply above the countryside. The Warrumbungle area has been made a national park because of its unique geological history and its interesting plants and animals.
