Yarra River is a river in southeastern Victoria, Australia. It rises near Mount Baw Baw and flows through Melbourne into Port Phillip Bay. The Yarra River and its tributaries supply Melbourne with water. Popular vacation resorts lie amid spectacular scenery on its upper reaches. Factories have been built near the Yarra River estuary on low-lying land reclaimed from the sea. The river was first explored in 1803 by Charles Grimes while surveying the Port Phillip Bay area.
