Enzi, Michael Bradley

Enzi, Michael Bradley (1944-2021), a Republican from Wyoming, was a member of the United States Senate from 1997 to 2021. A former co-owner of a shoe store business with his wife, Enzi supported tax breaks for small businesses. He spoke out against gun control and abortion.

Enzi was born in Bremerton, Washington, on Feb. 1, 1944. He received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from George Washington University in 1966 and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Denver in 1968.

From 1975 to 1982, Enzi was mayor of Gillette, Wyoming. Enzi was an accounting manager and computer programmer for Dunbar Well Service from 1985 to 1997. From 1992 to 1996, he was also director of Black Hills Corporation, a South Dakota-based utility company.

Enzi served in the Wyoming House of Representatives from 1987 to 1991, and in the Wyoming Senate from 1992 to 1996. He won election to his first term in the U.S. Senate in 1996 and took office in 1997. As a senator, Enzi served on the committees on the budget; finance; health, education, labor, and pensions; and homeland security and government affairs. He was reelected in 2002, 2008, and 2014. He did not seek reelection in 2020. Enzi died on July 26, 2021.
