Grams, Rodney Dwight

Grams, Rodney Dwight (1948-…), was a member of the United States Senate from 1995 to 2001. Grams, a Republican, represented Minnesota. As a senator, he sponsored legislation that would eliminate the federal Department of Energy. He served on the congressional Joint Economic Committee and on the Senate committees on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs; Budget; Energy and Natural Resources; and Foreign Relations.

Grams was born in Princeton, Minnesota. He attended Anoka-Ramsey Junior College in Minneapolis from 1970 to 1972 and Carroll College in Helena, Montana, in 1974 and 1975. From 1982 to 1991, Grams worked as a television producer and anchor at stations in Illinois, Minnesota, Montana, and Wisconsin. In 1985, he entered the home-building and land development business.

Grams was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1992 and served from 1993 to 1995. He won election to the U.S. Senate in 1994. He took office in 1995. Grams campaigned for reelection to the Senate in 2000 but lost to his Democratic opponent, Mark Dayton.
