Ballmer, Steve (1956-…), was the chief executive officer of Microsoft Corporation from 2000 to 2013. Microsoft is the world’s largest developer and publisher of computer software.
Steven Anthony Ballmer was born on March 24, 1956, in Detroit. He graduated from Harvard University in 1977 with a bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics and economics. Ballmer then went to work for the Procter & Gamble Company as an assistant product manager.
Ballmer entered Stanford University’s business school in 1979. But he left Stanford in 1980, when he was invited to join Microsoft by one of the company’s cofounders, Bill Gates, whom he had met at Harvard. Ballmer held several positions within the company, including vice president of marketing and executive vice president of sales and support. He was named president of Microsoft in 1998 and its chief executive officer in 2000. Ballmer retired in February 2014. In August 2014, he became the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association.
