Lincoln, Blanche Lambert (1960-…), served in the United States Senate from 1999 to 2011. A Democrat from Arkansas, she became the state’s first woman senator since 1932.
Lincoln served in the United States House of Representatives from 1993 to 1997. In the House, she worked on a proposal for a balanced federal budget. She also was concerned with rural development and children’s and women’s health issues.
Blanche Lambert was born in Helena, Arkansas, on Sept. 30, 1960. She received a bachelor’s degree from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College (now Randolph College) in 1982. She was elected to the House in 1992 and reelected in 1994. In 1993, she married Steve Lincoln, a physician. In 1998, she was elected to her first term in the U.S. Senate. She took office in 1999 and won reelection in 2004. In the 2010 election, she was defeated by Republican Congressman John Boozman.
