Biola University is a private, Christian university in La Mirada, California, near Los Angeles. Biola describes its goal as providing a “Biblically centered education” for students of all Protestant denominations.
Lyman Stewart, president of the Union Oil Company, helped found the school in 1908. It was originally called the Bible Institute of Los Angeles. It was renamed Biola College in 1949. It moved to La Mirada in 1959 and became a university in 1981. A notable alumnus of Biola is author and speaker Josh McDowell.
