Boston College

Boston College is one of the oldest Roman Catholic universities in the United States. It was founded in Boston in 1863 by John McElroy, a Jesuit priest. In 1913, the main campus moved to Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston. Although the institution is called Boston College, it is actually a university made up of 11 schools and colleges. Well-known graduates of Boston College include football player Doug Flutie, former Speaker of the House Thomas P. (Tip) O’Neill, and Senator John F. Kerry of Massachusetts. Boston College athletic teams are called the Eagles.
