Connecticut College is a private liberal arts college in New London, Connecticut. The college was chartered in 1911. It was founded because Wesleyan University in Connecticut decided to admit only men. This decision left the state without an institution of higher learning for women. Classes at the Connecticut College for Women began in 1915. The college adopted its present name after it began to admit men in 1969. The college’s athletic teams are called the Camels.
