Florida Institute of Technology is an independent university centered on science and technology education. It is in Melbourne, Florida. The university was founded in 1958 as the Brevard Engineering Institute to provide continuing education to the engineers, scientists, and technicians working at what is now the Kennedy Space Center. The university adopted its present name in 1966. The university’s athletic teams are called the Panthers.
