Illinois State University

Illinois State University is a public institution of higher learning in Normal, Illinois. The university was founded in 1857 as the first public institution of higher education in Illinois. Established as a teacher education institution, Illinois State is now a full university offering bachelor’s, master’s, and doctor’s degrees. The school still has a strong emphasis on teacher education.

The university’s sports teams are called the Redbirds. Well-known graduates of Illinois State University include playwright Rachel Crothers and actors John Malkovich, Laurie Metcalf, and Gary Sinise.
