Kansas State University

Kansas State University is a public, state-supported institution of higher learning. The university’s main campus is in Manhattan, Kansas, and it also has campuses in Olathe and Salina. The university was called Kansas State Agricultural College when it was founded in 1863. It was one of the first institutions of higher learning to be established under the Morrill Act of 1862. This act granted public lands to support agricultural or mechanical education. The university adopted its present name in 1959.

The campus in Salina houses the College of Technology and Aviation. The Kansas Legislature established Kansas State University–Salina by merging the former Kansas College of Technology with the university.

John Jacob Rhodes, former minority leader of the United States House of Representatives, is one of Kansas State’s best-known graduates. The university’s athletic teams are called the K-State Wildcats.
