Nova Southeastern University is a private, independent institution of higher learning in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The state of Florida chartered Nova University in 1964. The university adopted its present name in 1994, when it merged with Southeastern University of the Health Sciences. It is one of the largest independent universities in the country. Fort Lauderdale is home to the main campus and a smaller campus known as the East Campus. In addition, Nova Southeastern University operates campuses in Dania Beach and North Miami Beach. The university’s athletic teams are called the Sharks.
