Randolph College, formerly Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, is a private, liberal arts college in Lynchburg, Virginia. Students may earn bachelor’s degrees in a wide variety of fields. Special programs include international internships, the American Culture Program, and study at the University of Reading in England.
The college was founded in 1891 by William Waugh Smith. It was the first women’s college in the South to receive a Phi Beta Kappa charter. The college changed its name from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College to Randolph College in 2006 and announced that it would begin admitting men in the fall of 2007. Well-known alumnae of the college include Nobel Prize-winning author Pearl S. Buck, Senator Blanche Lambert Lincoln of Arkansas, and federal judge Susan Webber Wright. The college’s athletic teams are called the WildCats.
