Skidmore College

Skidmore College is a private, independent institution of higher learning in Saratoga Springs, New York. In 1903, Lucy Skidmore Scribner, a publisher’s widow, established a school of fine and practical arts for women called the Young Women’s Industrial Club of Saratoga. When the school was chartered in 1911, she renamed it Skidmore School of Arts in honor of her father, Joseph Russell Skidmore. It became Skidmore College in 1922. The school began to admit men in 1971.

Notable Skidmore alumni include magazine publisher Grace Mirabella. The college’s athletic teams are called the Thoroughbreds.
