South Florida, University of

South Florida, University of, is a public, state-supported institution of higher learning in Tampa, Florida. The state of Florida founded the university in 1956. Classes began in 1960. The university is part of the State University System of Florida. It operates regional campuses in Lakeland, St. Petersburg, and Sarasota. The university’s athletic teams are called the Bulls.

The school is affiliated with Tampa General Hospital and the All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg. The H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute, on the university’s campus, is the only national cancer institute in Florida.
