Texas Tech University is a public, state-supported institution of higher learning in Lubbock, Texas. It was founded in 1923 as Texas Technological College and offered courses of study in agriculture, engineering, liberal arts, and home economics. The college expanded and, in 1969, adopted its present name. Women’s basketball player Sheryl Swoopes and singer John Denver are among Texas Tech’s well-known graduates. The university’s athletic teams are called the Red Raiders.
