Texas Woman’s University is a public, state-supported institution of higher learning in Denton, Texas. The school was founded in 1901 as the Girls Industrial College and admitted only women. Classes began in 1903. The college changed its name to the College of Industrial Arts in 1905. In 1934, it became the Texas State College for Women. It adopted its present name in 1957. The university now admits men to all of its programs. The university’s athletic teams are called the Pioneers.
