Toledo, University of, is a state institution of higher learning in Toledo, Ohio. Jesup W. Scott founded the university in 1872. Its original name was the Toledo University of Arts and Trades. The city of Toledo supported the university from 1883 until 1967, when the school became part of the Ohio State University System. The university’s athletic teams are called the Rockets.
