Wright State University

Wright State University is an institution of higher learning in Fairborn, a suburb of Dayton, Ohio. The history of Wright State University dates back to 1962. In that year, the citizens of Dayton held a community fund-raising drive to establish a public university in the Dayton area. They purchased land for the campus near Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Classes began in 1964 at what was then called the Dayton Campus of Miami University and Ohio State University. In 1965, the state of Ohio named the school Wright State University after the aviation pioneers Wilbur and Orville Wright, who lived in Dayton. Wright State achieved full university status in 1967. The university’s athletic teams are nicknamed the Raiders.
