Andrews, David (1935-…), a Fianna Fail politician, held important government posts in the Republic of Ireland in the 1970’s and 1990’s. He served as minister for foreign affairs in 1992 and 1993, as minister for defense and the marine in 1993 and 1994, and again as minister for foreign affairs from 1997 to 2000. He helped craft the Northern Ireland peace settlement in the late 1990’s.
Andrews was born on March 15, 1935, in Dublin and educated at University College, Dublin, and King’s Inns, Dublin. He qualified as a barrister (lawyer authorized to argue cases in the highest courts of the United Kingdom) in 1962. Andrews served in Dail Eireann (the lower house of the Irish parliament) for Dun Laoghaire from 1965 to 2000.
