Automobile Association (AA), is a major travel organization in the United Kingdom. It provides assistance for members if their automobiles break down on the road, as well as legal, technical, and travel information. It also arranges automobile and other insurance.
The AA was founded in London in 1905 by a group of driving enthusiasts to combat what they considered police and magisterial persecution of motorists, which threatened to force private cars off the road. Later, increased membership enabled the AA to provide many more services, including free legal defense and roadside repairs.
