Cape Byron is a steep headland on the north coast of New South Wales, Australia. It is the most easterly point of the Australian continent. Cape Byron lighthouse, with a light visible for about 25 miles (40 kilometers), was erected in 1901. The British navigator Captain James Cook first sighted and named Cape Byron in 1770.
