Charlton, Boy (1907-1975), was an outstanding Australian swimmer during the 1920’s. During his career, he set or tied numerous world records. In 1924, he defeated the famous record-setting Swedish swimmer Arne Borg in races of 220, 440, and 880 yards in Sydney. At the Olympic Games in Paris in 1924, Charlton won gold medal in the 1,500-meter freestyle in what was then a world record time. He also won a silver medal and a bronze medal at the 1924 Olympics. He won silver medals in the 400-meter and 1,500-meter freestyle races in the 1928 Olympic Games.
Andrew Charlton was born on Oct. 12, 1907, at North Sydney. He retired from swimming competition after the 1932 Olympics. He died on Dec. 10, 1975.
