Cheddar

Cheddar is a village in the Mendip Hills in Somerset, England. It stands at the entrance to Cheddar Gorge. The cliffs of the gorge rise about 450 feet (137 meters). The Cox’s and Gough’s caves have notable limestone formations. St. Andrew’s Church dates from the 1300’s. Nearby Wells Cathedral, built in the Perpendicular Gothic style, features complex vertical tracery patterns on its walls and vaults. Manufacture of the famous Cheddar cheese began in the area in the 1100’s. The area is also known for its many strawberry fields.
