Treeswift, or crested swift, is any of a group of small birds related to swifts. Unlike swifts, however, treeswifts have feet adapted for perching. Treeswifts live from India through Southeast Asia and on islands of the southwest Pacific Ocean. They have plumelike crests that the birds can make erect. A treeswift’s nest measures only 1 inch (2.5 centimeters) across. The nest is paper thin and attached to the side of a thin branch. Treeswifts hunt flying insects, usually at dusk, when they dart out from their perch to snap up any that come within range.
