Dixon, Sir Owen (1886-1972), an Australian lawyer, was a justice of the High Court of Australia from 1929 to 1952, and chief justice from 1952 to 1964. He was the Australian minister to Washington in the United States during part of World War II, from 1942 to 1944. In 1950, he served as a special mediator for the United Nations in the dispute between India and Pakistan over control of the Kashmir region. Owen was born on April 28, 1886, in Hawthorn, Victoria. He was educated in Melbourne. He was knighted in 1951. He died on July 7, 1972.
