Galah

Galah is one of the most common birds in Australia. It is a type of cockatoo with pink and gray plumage. Unlike most other parrots, cockatoos have a crest of feathers that can be raised and lowered.

The galah is 14 inches (35 centimeters) long. Its call is a high-pitched screech. It feeds on the seeds of grasses and other plants.

Native galah populations are found throughout most of Australia, including Tasmania and other islands. The birds live in forested habitats near water. Large flocks attack crops and can cause considerable damage. Galahs also live in many Australian cities.

Breeding pairs nest in tree hollows, which are lined with eucalyptus leaves. The female lays four to five white eggs. Both parents feed and care for the chicks.
