Greevy, Bernadette (1940-2008), was an Irish contralto singer of outstanding quality. Her full-toned voice, which sustained its richness throughout a wide range, won her critical acclaim internationally. Her repertoire covered both recital pieces and large-scale concert works by such composers as Johannes Brahms and Gustav Mahler. She also performed in operas by Benjamin Britten, George Frideric Handel, Jules Massenet, Gioachino Rossini, Michael Tippett, and Giuseppe Verdi. In 2000, Greevy founded the Anna Livia International Opera Festival and became its artistic director. Greevy was born in Dublin, Ireland, on July 3, 1940. She studied singing in Dublin and London. She died on Sept. 26, 2008.
