Grimmett, Clarrie

Grimmett, Clarrie (1891-1980), a New Zealand-born cricket player, was one of the best spin bowlers to represent Australia. He played in 37 Test matches, taking a total of 216 wickets averaging 24.21 runs. His best bowling achievement was 7 wickets for 40 runs, against South Africa in 1936, when he also took a record 44 wickets in the series. Clarence Victor Grimmett was born on Dec. 25, 1891, in Dunedin, New Zealand. He made his Test debut against England in 1924-1925 and made his last test appearance against South Africa in 1935-1936.
