Harry, Prince (1984-…), is the younger son of King Charles III of the United Kingdom and Diana, Princess of Wales. He is fifth in the line of succession to the throne of the United Kingdom, coming after his elder brother, Prince William; William’s first son, George; William’s daughter, Charlotte; and William’s second son, Louis. Prince Harry’s full name is Henry Charles Albert David Windsor.
Prince Harry was born on Sept. 15, 1984. He attended Ludgrove School, a preparatory school in Berkshire, England. He then attended Eton, one of the leading private secondary schools in the United Kingdom. Prince Harry and Prince William endured the divorce of their parents in 1996 and the death of their mother in 1997.
In 2005, Prince Harry entered the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst, England. He completed military training in 2006 and was commissioned as an officer in the Blues and Royals regiment of the Household Cavalry. Also in 2006, Prince Harry cofounded a charity with Prince Seeiso, the younger brother of the king of Lesotho. The charity aims to help children in Lesotho whose parents have died of AIDS. The charity’s name is Sentebale in Sesotho, the language of Lesotho, and it means Forget Me Not in English. Prince Harry said he intended the project as a tribute to his mother, who had been a strong supporter of AIDS research and of children’s causes.
In 2017, Prince Harry announced his engagement to Meghan Markle, an actress born in the United States. The couple married in May 2018. On his wedding day, Harry received the titles Duke of Sussex, the Earl of Dumbarton, and Baron Kilkeel.
Harry and Meghan’s son, Archie Harrison, who is sixth in line to the British throne, was born on May 6, 2019. The couple’s daughter, Lilibet Diana, who is seventh in line to the throne, was born on June 6, 2021. In January 2020, Harry and Meghan announced, on the social media site Instagram, that they intended “to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent.” The announcement stated that the couple expected to split their time between the United Kingdom and North America. Harry’s memoir, Spare (2023), revealed the couple’s difficult relationships with the royal family.
