Hassett, Lindsay

Hassett, Lindsay (1913-1993), captained the Australian cricket team from 1948 to 1953. He scored 3,073 runs in 43 Test matches at an average of 46.56 runs an innings. He made his highest score, 198, against India in Adelaide in 1948. In a Test match against England in 1946, Hassett and Don Bradman set an Australian record of 276 runs for a third-wicket partnership. During Hassett’s captaincy, Australia lost only 5 Test matches out of 20. For Victoria, he scored 6,935 runs, including 23 centuries, at an average of 63 runs an innings. Arthur Lindsay Hassett was born on Aug. 28, 1913, in Geelong, Victoria. He died on June 16, 1993.
