Havers, Robert Michael Oldfield (1923-1992), was the United Kingdom’s lord chancellor from June to October 1987. A Conservative Party politician, he had previously been attorney general since 1979. He was solicitor general from 1972 to 1974.
Havers was born on March 10, 1923, and educated at Cambridge University. He became a barrister (a lawyer qualified to argue cases in the highest courts) in 1948. Havers was first elected as member of Parliament for Wimbledon in 1970. He was knighted in 1972 and became a life peer in 1987. He coauthored several books on legal matters. He died on April 1, 1992.
